How to Turn Your Side Hustle Into a Thriving Business

Today I am sharing with you how to turn side hustle into a thriving business. This is for those of you who want to leave your 9-5 OR would like to turn your talent or hobby into a money-making machine!

Separate work & your personal life

separation of work & personal life can be really hard for us entrepreneurs when we love what we do. However, separation is critical to the success of your business and overall well being. Turn your side hustle into a business by….

  1. Having a dedicated workspace. Your space should be easily accessible, however not in a place in your home that you spend a majority of your time. I spend most of my time in my living room or kitchen so I would NOT place my desk there. Instead, I opt for my bedroom where I can work under my prefered conditions. My bedroom is a great temperature with ample sunlight.
  2. Clock In and out of work. I know this can seem like an annoyance for those of us who just quit the 9-5 life. This time you are not clocking in and out for your paycheck or for HR, you are clocking in and out for your mindset. When you clock in your brain turns on and when you clock out your brain turns off. Most CRM software offers a time tracking feature, I personally use Dubsado.

Use Language that Conveys Authority

Especially when we are in the beginning stages of turning our side hustle into a business we can have a hard time using language that shows we mean business.

  1. Stop saying “I’m busy” When we have a project or business matter to attend to we often say “I am busy” OR “I have something to do”. You aren’t lying, however, you also aren’t using language that conveys authority. Instead of saying “I am busy” SAY “I am working on a client project”. This shows those around you that you mean business.
  2. Stop saying “I do xyz”. While networking in a professional and personal setting we will often be asked “what do you do?” The common response is “I do websites” OR “I do xyz”. Instead of saying “I do” get specific and SAY “I own & run a web design company that focuses on strategic WordPress and ShowIt websites for female-owned small businesses.” This builds authority with who you are speaking with and allows them to do the networking for you. The more specific you get the more likely they are to think of somebody they know who needs your product or service.

You need a website to turn a side hustle into a business.

A website can set you apart as a business owner. A website conveys that you take your business seriously and that you are willing to invest money into your business so that it can thrive. 80% of consumers say they will not buy from a company that does not have a website. Your website builds credibility with your consumer as well as the friends and family around you. If you are not ready to financially invest in a strategically built website check out Episode 10, where I tell you everything you need to know before building your own website.
